Cleveland State Will Host Golf Legend, Betsy King

Cleveland State Community College Foundation will host golf legend, Betsy King, on Thursday, February 11, 2027. King won six major Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) championships and 34 LPGA Tour victories. She was named Golf World’s 1989 Player of the Year, won a 1994 ESPY Award and was inducted into the World Golf and LPGA Halls of Fame in 1995.

Presented by Builtwell Banking, An Evening with Betsy King will include a reception, dinner and interview at the Partners in Industry and Education (PIE) Center in Cleveland. Tickets are $100 per person and are available through the Cleveland State website, mycs.cc/eveningwith. All proceeds from the event go to the Cleveland State Foundation, which provides support for the college and hundreds of scholarships to students each year.

Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, King played collegiate golf at Furman University in South Carolina, where her team earned the 1976 National Championship title. She joined the LPGA Tour in 1977 winning her first event in 1984 and her first major championship at the 1987 Chevron Championship. King is a five-time U.S. Solheim Cup team member and captained the U.S. team in 2007. She was the Rolex Player of the Year three times and the Vare Trophy recipient twice.

Since retirement King has worked with multiple charities and created Golf Fore Africa in 2007, which focuses on bringing clean, fresh drinking water to over 200,000 people in rural Africa and is committed to helping end the global water crisis by 2030.

“We are honored to host Betsy King in February,” stated Dr. John M. Davis, Cleveland State President. “Her extraordinary achievements and commitment to making real-world differences will inspire students and leave a lasting impact on our community.”

While King is in Cleveland, she will also share her story with 1,000 middle and high school students from Cleveland State’s five-county service area on Friday, February 12, 2027.
